Short Nights of the Shadow Catcher: The Epic Life and Immortal Photographs of Edward Curtis by Timothy Egan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
“Short Nights of the Shadow Catcher”, the biography of Edward Sherriff Curtis, one of America’s most influential photographers, is elegantly written and deeply moving. The book is well researched, giving the reader insight to the complex life and labor of love that motivated Curtis to produce such an outstanding body of work, without which deep knowledge of an entire culture may likely have been lost. Timothy Egan’s book is a must-read for anyone interested in learning about the man behind the enigmatic portraits of Native Americans that are both haunting and enduring.
