Writing Down the Bones: Freeing the Writer Within by Natalie Goldberg
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This is not just another book about writing. The author, Natalie Goldberg, shares brilliant insights designed to help the reader approach their work with a Zen mindset. Ms. Goldberg quotes several Zen masters and uses examples from her own experiences to illustrate her points. I bookmarked over half a dozen pages that I want to revisit, but one of my favorite pearls of writing advice is, “Stay fluid behind those black-and-white words. They are not you. They were a great moment going through you. A moment you were awake enough to write down and capture.” A lot of the wisdom in this book applies to other creative forms like painting, as well. I found this book helpful and recommend it to fellow writers searching for their mojo.
